As dogs owners are on honeymoon the RSPCA put down their pet dog, we support the petition to the PM to stop this attrocity happening again.

The laws relating to dogs and other animals are outdated and urgently need to be reviewed and updated. Animals are being destroyed at RSPCA and SPCA facilities all over the UK, through no fault of their own.

Documentation should be provided and be available to the public to prove that All methods of contacting the rightful owner have been used before an animal is PTS.

The current practice to hold a dog for only 7 days is wrong and totally inadequate. We, the undersigned request that the 7 day rule be changed to 28 days.

This petition has been set up in memory of Sal the 8 year West Highland terrier, from Liverpool that was sadly put to sleep at RSPCA HALEWOOD when her owners were on honeymoon and for all the other dogs who have suffered a similar fate.

RSPCA SLAMMED YET AGAIN, COMMENTS FROM NEIGHBOURS FOLLOWING RAID

AS THE RSPCA WASTE £100K ON PROSECUTING A HAMPSHIRE RABBIT BREEDING COUPLE, WE LOOK AT SOME OF THE COMMENTS DIRECTED AGAINST THEM AND THEIR INSPECTOR CHRISTINE COLEMAN IN THE LOCAL PRESS !

"The way the RSPCA handled this was appalling, they treated the family and rabbits with no respect, and the woman from the RSPCA leading the raid, was rude, nasty and vindictive"

In August 2008 I started to hear stories that innocent farmers and pet owners were being wrongly accused and charged with animal cruelty.

But is the RSPCA's reputation being jeopardised ? After three months of research looking at how the charity investigates and then presses ahead with its private prosecutions, I think there is need for concern.
Unlike the Scottish Society For the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, which investigates and then puts a case forward to the equivalent of the Crown Prosecution Service for consideration, the RSPCA does both of these tasks in-house.
It investigates and then its own team of lawyers decide who to prosecute and who to let off with a warning.
If you are ever unlucky enough to find yourself on the receiving end of an RSPCA summons accusing you of animal cruelty, then beware, you could lose a lot.
You could find yourself banned from keeping any animal for life.
You could face a six month prison sentence and you could get a £5,000 fine.
All this could happen in a magistrates court under a private prosecution bought against you by the RSPCA.
I know because I've spoken to the people who've found themselves in this position... the beef farmer from Kent, the kennel assistant from Portsmouth and the pensioner from Petworth in Sussex.
Human impact
My investigation looks at how these people found themselves facing a private prosecution by the RSPCA.
Prosecuted for animal cruelty - found not guilty.
They face the very real prospect of financial ruin and having their reputations destroyed.
All of them were actually found not guilty of animal cruelty charges in the end.
But I'll let you decide for yourselves whether I've managed to present a case worthy of inclusion in 'Rough Justice'.

RSPCA WASTE £100K OF DONATIONS ON 1 PROSECUTION

RSPCA LEFT WITH MASSIVE BILL, AS WE ASK; IS THIS WHAT DONATIONS ARE FOR ?

Most cases are bankrolled by the charity, each year costing millions of pounds.
As reported in the Daily Echo, the RSPCA was successful in banning a Hampshire couple who kept rabbits.

The result was the one they were after – but they were left with a bill for more than £100,000 for the prosecution.

The charity brought the case against Dawn and Pete Bundy after discovering animals kept at the pair’s house in October last year.

The couple were ordered to pay £1,000 towards the cost of the case – but the RSPCA was left to pick up the £101,465.63 balance.
Legal fees set the charity back around £20,000 – the rest was made up of veterinary bills and the cost of housing the animals for a year.
Speaking after the case, RSPCA inspector Christine Coleman explained the cost of the case is something the charity had to accept.
She said: “It is a huge bill to pick up but our aim is to prevent cruelty to animals so it had to be done".
Although animal cruelty is a criminal offence, the RSPCA takes on the role of the prosecutor – and therefore is liable to pick up the fees.
RSPCA spokeswoman Emma Nutbrown said: “The downside is that it costs us a lot of money each year “It is a balancing act we can’t put a price on enforcing it.”

In 2007 the RSPCA investigated 137,245 cases of animal cruelty, 1,860 of which were reported to the charity’s prosecutions department.

That resulted in 1,104 convictions and 861 orders banning people from keeping animals.
“We don’t go into houses looking to prosecute people,” said Mrs Nutbrown.
